Trying to find a recipe that takes less than 20 minutes to complete is not easy. However, this appetizer is simple, fast, and delicious! You don’t need to spend hours in the kitchen to create something satisfying and aesthetically pleasing.  Tartines are an open face appetizer that can be made in a million different ways. Serving a platter of several different tartines is a fun and trendy party appetizer. This easy appetizer also pairs well with both cocktails, beer, and wine.

Not only are tartines are easy to throw together, they are the perfect canvas to combine sweet and savory.  Tartines are obviously of French origin, but I have put together combinations that extend far beyond fruits and cheese. They can be made with a variety of ingredients such as fish, like smoked salmon or whitefish spread, or charcuteries, like prosciutto and pâté, or fruits and vegetables like tomatoes, figs and avocados, and almost all the herbs and cheeses you can imagine!

Is the perfect question to ask when creating your combinations! This time of year, mangos are a great option, and they are often found pre-sliced in the grocery store. This will help you save even more time in the kitchen. In the later summer months, I would suggest choosing a fruit that is in-season, like figs, add ricotta drizzled with honey or choose apricots with burrata drizzled with balsamic.

Tartines are ideal for a quick summer snack that’s light, not labor intensive and can become extremely creative. Let yourself experiment with all types of combinations you’d normally never consider!

Grilled Mango Tartines

Serves: 6 servings Cooking Time: 20 mins

Ingredients

  • Loaf of good crusted Italian bread
  • Ricotta or Burrata cheese
  • Heirloom cherry tomatoes
  • Balsamic vinegar
  • Pepper to taste
  • Himalayan sea salt to taste

Instructions

Cut mangos and slice them into long pieces

Place them in foil and drizzle balsamic vinegar

Take them to the grill and remove each piece one at a time to get a good grill mark

Remove from grill

Toast Bread until golden brown

Spread either Burrata or Ricotta cheese on the toast

Slice heirloom cherry tomatoes in half

Add the mango to the toast and tomatoes

Sprinkle salt and pepper to taste

Drizzle a touch of balsamic vinegar

Garnish with fresh herbs

Both cheeses work well because they are semi - soft and easy to spread This is a simple recipe that can work with any seasonal fruit
